A great-looking tuxedo starts with accurate measurements. Whether you are renting for a wedding, prom, or special event, here is everything you need to know about measuring for a tuxedo rental.
The Key Measurements
Chest
Measure around the fullest part of your chest, under your arms. Keep the tape snug but not tight. This is the most important measurement for jacket sizing.
Waist
Measure around your natural waistline — typically just above your belly button. This determines your pants size and vest fit.
Inseam
Measure from the crotch seam to the bottom of your ankle bone. This determines your pant length. Formal pants should break slightly at the top of your shoe.
Sleeve Length
With your arm slightly bent, measure from the center back of your neck, across your shoulder, down to your wrist bone. About half an inch of shirt cuff should show below the jacket sleeve.
Neck
Measure around the base of your neck where a dress shirt collar sits. Add half an inch for comfort. This determines your shirt size.
Outseam
Measure from your waist to the floor along the outside of your leg. This helps confirm pant length.
